Over the years, the company has invested in automated packaging equipments for plastic bottle filling, but the volume of product packed in stand-up pouch keeps increasing. Until recently, the company had three full-time employees hand labeling the pre-made stand-up pouches. Now the company has automated that operation, using labeling equipment supplied by Aesus Packaging Systems.
FoodScience Chief Operating Officer Bill O'Connor says, ''We were looking for an operator-friendly machine that was easy to set-up because of frequent changeovers, and the Aesus Pouch Labeler met this criteria.'' The pouches are loaded in a dual-stack feeder and fed one at a time to the servo-driven label dispensers that simultaneously apply pressure-sensitive labels to both side of the laminated pouches.
The pre-made pouch are labeled off-line and later filled on a PSG LEE bagger supplied by PPi Technologies Group. The bagger has an eight-station rotary turret that will open the zipper, verify that the bottom gusset is open, fill, heat seal and cool seal before discharging on the outfeed conveyor. The products are filled by an auger filler, a counter or a scale depending of what it is.
