Hummus keeps growing in popularity and like other refrigerated products, it can be offered in various types of packaging, including cups, tubs and pouches.  

The most common type of packaging for hummus is by far the plastic tub, also called deli tup.  Through the distribution channel, the packaging usually comprises the plastic tub itself, a plastic membrane and a plastic lid.

Rotary and linear hummus filling machines operates similarly when it comes to container handling; the main differences are production speed (higher for linear) and size.  The rotary fill/seal machine for hummus is typically operatared by one person, since the machine is small and the container infeed (empty) and outfeed (filled) are very close.  It makes it easy for one operator to replenish the stack of empty cups or tubs and also to manually case pack the filled containers.  Rotary filling machine for hummus can fill 1, 2 or 3 cups per cycle.

Linear filling machine for hummus are longer footprint and they can be offered in single or multiple lanes, which mean several cups or tubs can be filled, sealed with membrane and overcapped per cycle.  Empty containers are stacked at the filling machine infeed and they are denested, filled with hummus, toppers can be added (in more than one station), plastic membrane from rollstock is applied or foil is applied, and plastic lid is applied.  The main benefits from linear machines are higher production speed and greater flexibility.
